Today, I found a very interesting and enlightening article written by *Owen Linzmayer at Wired.com.
Celebratingthe 30th anniversary of Apple Computer, hereby would I like to sharesome of the most brilliant and indicating (sometimes, even suggesting,in a way as you might guess) quotes which have come out of the mouth ofSteve Jobs; one of the co-founders of Apple Computer, Inc.

去る六月に挙行された米国スタンフォード大学卒業式に於ける、
米国 Apple Computer、Pixar Animation Studios CEO Steve Jobs氏による祝賀スピーチ中の言葉である。
このスピーチについて本日仕事上のパートナーと話す機会があった。
既に御存知の方々も多いと思われるが、少しでも多くの人々と共有させて頂きたいので、今晩その感動的なスピーチに関する記事（スピーチのTranscript及びビデオ映像）と、スピーチの抄訳へのリンクを掲示させて頂きたいと思う。


iPod及びiTunes MusicStoreとその関連サービスが隆盛を極める今日、Apple社の歴史について詳しい北米や日本のIT業界関係者を除き、先進各国社会の大部分の人々にとって、AppleComputer社とは留まる事を知らぬ圧倒的な成長力で競合他社を駆逐してゆく米国の『多国籍、勝ち組企業群』の象徴であり、そのカリスマ的経営者であるCEO SteveJobs氏については、iPod/ITMSの大成功と絡めて、その輝かしい経営手腕が賞賛と羨望の眼差しで見つめられることが多い。

しかし、Jobs氏は今回取り上げる名門大学の卒業式における祝賀スピーチの中で、自らの成功体験ではなく、敢えて自らの出自を始め『負』の部分について語り、その数奇な運命の連なりの中で、失敗と挫折の中にこそ自己実現を成し遂げる為の鍵が隠されていると熱く語る。

今日日、大半のiPod愛好者やMac愛好者にとっては驚きかもしれないが、歴史を紐解けばJobs氏の人生は決して順風満帆と呼べるものではなかった。
Jobs氏はかつて『世界を変えるコンピュータを売るのか、それとも一生砂糖入りソーダ水を売り続けるのか』との問い掛けのもと、世界的飲料メーカ米国ペプシ社から辣腕経営者ジョン・スカリ氏を三顧の礼を持ってApple社へ招く事に成功する。しかし、後に経営方針を巡り社内を二分する深刻な対立の果て、取締役会の決定により『自分ら創り上げた』理想的コンピュータ会社／楽園から放逐されるという屈辱的な経験を持つ。

社内の権力闘争に破れ、全てを失った彼が、後に現在のMac OS Xの基礎となる革新的OS NeXT STEPを生み出すNeXT社を、そして全編フルCGAnimation映画の嚆矢となるToy Storyを生み出すPixar社を立ち上げる事に成功するとは、当時何人の関係者が予測出来ただろうか。
ましてや、続く９０年代半ばに至るまでの業績低迷の末、Sony、IBMによる買収まで取り沙汰されていたApple社にJobs氏が給料１ドル契約で電撃的に返り咲き、抜本的改革を社内に施し、１０年経たぬうちにSonyの本業である携帯音楽プレーヤー市場を脅かす事になるとは。

私の大学時代の恩師の言葉に『歴史の高みに立って、過去を批判するのは容易い事だ』という箴言がある。
Jobs氏についてこれ以上、言を重ねる必要は無いだろう。
このスピーチ原稿を読む事で、より多くの人々が、Steve Jobsという機智溢れる一人のアメリカ人、そして彼が天才エンジニアStevenWozniak氏と二人でカリフォルニアのガレージから造り上げたAppleという会社の創造力そして生命力の原点を垣間見る事が出来れば、それは私の望外の喜びです。

iPod nano, iTunes 5 & ROKR

ついに　ツイニ　遂に　終に...（シツコイ？　ハイ、時に私はパラノイア"的"になります...）

もとい、

昨日米サンフランシスコにて（日本では本日付）、遂に、業界ではかねてよりその登場が嘱望されていたフラッシュメモリ・液晶搭載型iPodが、その姿を現した。

正式名称は【iPod nano】。

Mini、Shuffuleに続く第四弾はn（ナノ）と来ましたか、Appleさん！
サイズは御覧の通り、ジーンズの小銭用ポッケ（優しい表現＊を心がける今日この頃...）にするっと納まる尺と薄さです。

＊〈会話・文章表現にオケルUniversal Designという概念は有効であろうか？　老若男女問わず、円滑な会話を手助けする表現形態とは何か。今度NHKのアナウンサ氏に逢ったら聞いてみよう。因みに私は渋谷に屯する少女達とは共通語を持ちたく無い。〉

特徴は、上記の”おおきさ”にも関わらず、カラー液晶が搭載され、尚且つ使い易い大きさのホイールが搭載されている事。シャッフルのモノについて は”小さ過ぎる！”という不満・嘆きが相当多かった模様。尚、本体容量は2GBと4GBの二種類で、本体色も白と黒の二種類が用意されている。

付け加えると、ヘッドフォン端子が本体下部に搭載されているので取り回しが若干楽になった点、及びMiniとは異なり、iPod同様、曲名・アーティスト名・アルバム名が、ジャケット写真と共に、曲再生中に一覧表示出来る点が評価できると思う。

更に、補足としては、今回の"nano"の発表・発売開始に際し、iPod MiniがApple Online Storeのラインナップから一旦外されている事に注目したい。
恐らく、このまま"Mini"というラインが廃止されるのではなく、年内に生産開始が予定されている6/8GB容量の日立製小型ハードディスク＊ を内臓し、"nano"に搭載されたカラー液晶システムと同様のモノを搭載して、年末までには再度ご登場という運びになると予想できる。
＊（因みに現行の第二世代Miniは日立製又はシーゲイト製4/6GBHD搭載で、初期Miniは日立製4GBのみ。この超小型ハードディスク の開発成功無しに、昨春北米で発売されるや否や大フィーバーを巻き起こしたiPod Miniの発売は有り得なかった。実は我々の見えないところで、iPodには日の丸技術なるものが多数投入されている。この辺の事情については日を改めて 語ってみたい。）


何れにせよ、年末には日本や世界のMini愛用者（私自身も含めて）の皆様にとって、喜ばしいニュースが齎されん事を願う。
私がiPodではなくMiniを現在使用しているのには、様々な理由が存在するが、その一つがこの美しいデザインと堅牢性のハーモニーである。
もう一つは、後日機会があれば此処で触れてみたいと思うが、簡単に言うと初期Miniの開発に私の友人が深く関わっていたからである。


　さて、今回のアップルさんの発表会では、"nano"と共にiTunes Version 5　及びモトローラ社との共同開発によるiTunes搭載携帯電話"ROKR"もお披露目されている。

最後に、Apple CEO Steve Jobs氏についてご紹介？おば。

米アップル社の創業者コンビの一人で、”トイ・ストーリー”等のCGアニメーションの製作で有名な米ピクサー社の設立者でもある氏は、日本語で言 うところの”口から生まれてきた”という表現が、シリコンバレーに限らず、全世界のIT業界で最も相応しいヒトであると、個人的には尊敬する人物の一人で す。

実は、既にそれなりのオトシを召した御仁ではあるのだが、尽きぬ生命力と常に新しいものを生み出そうとする意欲に満ち溢れた人間というのは、周囲にも正のベクトルの影響を与える、という良い例だと思う。

因みに、氏は日本人デザイナー三宅一生氏の友人であり、恒例の新製品発表会の際、ジョブス氏のアメリカ人CEOとしては特筆すべきスリムな肉体（日本人的にはもちろん普通ですが）を覆っているのはISSEY MIYAKEブランドのタートル及びVネックである。
この件については、中々面白い話を小耳に挿んだので、日を改めて書いてみたいと思う。

Podcasting/ポッドキャスティング

日本国内においても、iTunes ver. 4.9のリリース以降、
ポッドキャスティングが巷に燎原の火の如く広がりつつある模様。

現状ではラジオ局が本腰を入れている模様で、アーティスト、クリエイターやジャーナリスト等の個人としての配信はそれ程多くは無い様である。今後の動きに注目したい。

先日は、一見iPod/iTunes及び音楽全般にさして関心の無さそうな（失礼！）Human ResourcesのI氏から、

”Tさん（私）、今朝の日経に載ってた記事読んだと思うけど、後で時間が有ったらアップルの音楽配信とポッド...何たらについてちょっと教えて下さい。”

とおもむろにカフェテリアで質問され、
”一体どうしたの？”
なんて思案に耽りながらI氏ブースへ赴くと、
いきなりアップルさんのHPを見せられて、
”これだよ、これ...面白そうだよね。”
と興味津々のご様子だったので、小一時間かけて懇切丁寧にご解説差し上げた次第。

何でも、I氏は以前からかなりのオーディオブックマニア(本人曰く、NHKラジオ深夜便や落語シリーズは通勤地獄解消の特効薬らしい)で、その守備範囲はかなり多岐に渡る御様子。

iTunesを通じて、全国津々浦々、そして世界の端々から同好の士による面白ポッドキャストが毎時取り込めるという事実に少年の様に感激されていた。

最後にはさりげなく、”やはり総合的に見るとiTunes, iTunes Music Storeと連係できるiPodが一番ですよ。娘さん達にも是非ブレゼントしてあげてください。iPod Miniなら小型で可愛らしいデザインなのできっと喜びますよ。”　とアップルさんの業績向上に寄与しておきました。
先日、Public Relationsの方から、アップルさんのご好意で社内優待価格での購入が可能になったとの知らせがあったばかりのI氏にとっては、これまさに僥倖であったろう。

学生時代,Morley氏の番組の愛聴者であった私は、
番組内で氏が企画したクラブ･イベントに数回参加させていただき、そこで様々な人々との交流を愉しむ事が出来た。
その中の幾人かとは、今日に至るまで交流が続いている。

又、一昨年は知る人ぞ知る、「ムネオハウス」ムーブメントにも彼を通じて参加する事が出来た。アメリカ・西ヨーロッパ諸国のみならず、硝煙の匂い も生々しい中東パレスティナ・イスラエルのラジオ局までも巻き込まんとの勢いで、日本発の【テクノ文化】を、極短い期間ながらも、世界へ配信する手助けが 出来たと思う。

「ムネオハウス」とは、インターネットメディアを介しての日本全国の市民を巻き込んだ【祭り】としてのテクノ・ミュージック創作・配信活動だったのだと今になって改めて思う。
願わくば、氏のポッドキャスティングが新たなムーブメントを創り出してくれる事を心から期待している。
